Terms of Service

These terms govern apidirectory.com, the gateway at gw.apidirectory.com, storefronts served from store.apidirectory.com or a seller's own domain, the MCP server, the dataset and the JSON API (together, "the service"), operated by APIDirectory ("we"). Using the service means you accept them. If you use it for a company, you accept them for that company.

1 · The index

The index is a directory of publicly documented APIs, assembled by our crawlers, by submissions, and by verified owners. Entries describe facts we observed — endpoints, authentication, pricing signals, link health, change history. They are provided as-is: an entry is not an endorsement, a guarantee that an API works, or a licence to use it. Every API listed remains the property of its provider and is governed by that provider's own terms.

You may link to any page. Automated access is welcome through the JSON API, the MCP server and the dataset tiers on the data page, each within the limits shown there. Bulk scraping of the site outside those channels is not permitted.

2 · Claiming and owner accounts

You may claim an entry only for an API you own or are authorised to represent. We verify with an email on the API's domain or a DNS record; a claim made with false information may be reversed and the entry restored to its crawled state. There are no passwords: a verified email is the identity, and the manage links we send it are the credential. Keep them as you would a password.

Owners are responsible for what they put on their entry. We may edit or remove content that is inaccurate, unlawful, or that misrepresents the API, and we may hide or delete any entry from the public index at our discretion.

3 · Paid placement

Fast-track and featured submissions, sponsored category slots, featured weeks and Owner Pro are sold for the period and at the price shown at checkout. Paid placement is always stamped as such; it never changes organic ranking. Purchases start when payment completes and are not refundable once the placement is live, except where the law requires otherwise or we failed to deliver it. Owner Pro is a yearly purchase and does not renew automatically; a storefront subscription includes Owner Pro for as long as the subscription is paid.

4 · The marketplace gateway

Where an API "sells here", we issue you a key, meter your requests, enforce the plan you bought, proxy your calls to the provider's origin and bill you monthly through Stripe at the price shown when you subscribed. The provider sets the price and the plan limits; we retain a share of gateway revenue from the provider, not from you.

A key is personal to the email it was issued to. Don't share it, and tell us if it leaks — we can revoke it and issue another. Usage is billed on our metering; disputes must be raised within 30 days of the invoice. We pass the provider's responses through untouched, including its errors, and we offer no uptime commitment on the gateway or on any origin behind it. Keys of subscriptions that lapse are deactivated. Abuse — attacking an origin, evading limits, or unlawful use of an API — ends the key without refund.

5 · Storefronts

A storefront is a hosted portal a provider ("the seller") runs under their own name, on our gateway, for a flat monthly fee to us. Buyers on a storefront are the seller's customers: payment goes to the seller's own Stripe account, the seller is the merchant of record, sets prices, plans, credit packs and their expiry, issues refunds, and answers for the API. We meter, issue keys, enforce the plan and host the pages. The seller's storefront fee to us carries no revenue share.

To run a storefront the seller gives us a Stripe restricted key limited to the scopes in the setup guide, and, if the origin needs one, an upstream credential. We store both encrypted and use them only to operate the storefront: creating the seller's prices and meters, buyers' checkouts, usage reports, subscription checks, and top-up charges the buyer asked for. The seller can rotate or remove them at any time from the console, and must if they suspect either is compromised.

Prepaid credits are sold by the seller and are the seller's liability. If a storefront closes — because the seller cancels the subscription, stops paying, or pauses the storefront — buyers' keys stop working when the gateway stops proxying for that API, and any unused prepaid balance is for the seller to refund. We never hold buyer funds and cannot refund on the seller's behalf. Auto top-up charges only run when a buyer has turned them on and set a spending cap, and never exceed that cap in a billing period.

Fair use is about 5 million gateway requests per storefront per month. Beyond that we'll agree a small additional fee per extra million; we will not impose a revenue share. Custom domains are the seller's: they keep the DNS pointed at us for as long as they want the storefront served there, and we issue the certificate.

6 · Dataset and API keys

Free dataset keys are for evaluation and small integrations within the published limits. Licensed exports are for the licensee's own products and may not be resold as a directory. Facts we observed are ours to license; provider prose and marks remain the providers'.

7 · Acceptable use

Don't: probe, overload or attack the service or any origin behind the gateway; evade rate limits, caps or plan ceilings; submit entries for APIs you have no right to list, or that exist to distribute malware, phishing or unlawful content; use the assistant or MCP server to do any of the above; or misrepresent who you are when claiming an entry. We may suspend keys, listings or accounts that do.

8 · Disclaimers and liability

The service is provided as-is and as-available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy of index data and availability of the gateway. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amounts you paid us in the three months before the claim arose. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

9 · Changes and contact

We may update these terms; the effective date above changes when we do, and material changes are announced on the changes feed or by email to affected owners and sellers. Continued use after a change is acceptance. Questions, takedown requests and disputes go to registry@apidirectory.com. See also our privacy policy.
